Sundays at SOPC
Sundays at SOPC
Our desire at Sherman Oaks Presbyterian Church is for individuals to encounter God in a way that encourages personal worship and a free expression of faith. We host a Bible study at 9:00 a.m. in the Fireside room and a blended worship service at 10 AM in the main sanctuary.
Services are rooted in strong Biblical teaching, with sermons exhorting a life in Christ that transcends every day worries and promotes the building up of believers through steadfast faith and relationship with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. An emphasis is also placed on prayer and caring for the members of our family at SOPC.

Worship
Here at SOPC our heart in worship is to facilitate an environment where Jesus Christ is the center focus of our praise.
We incorporate both traditional and contemporary styles of worship in our Sunday morning services. As a Presbyterian church, we believe that Hymns are such an integral part of our worship history and there is a richness in them that continues to be relevant today. However, just like in those days, God continues to inspire present day songwriters with new worship songs that are full of His truth and are Holy Spirit driven. Singing and playing both styles is a major aspect of the SOPC worship experience.
It is our vision to serve God by leading His people into His presence through worship and songs, and although growth in musical skill is essential and something we strongly emphasize, our passion is to firstly develop a team whose primary function is to minister to God not just on Sunday morning’s but every day. It is from that place of daily devotion that we can incite a corporate expression of wholehearted adoration to our Lord and savior.
Children’s Ministry
First of all, we'd like to say that it's a privilege to teach your child about God, His Word, and our identity as followers of Jesus. It is a joy to watch the children begin to grasp how amazing God is, how immense the love that Jesus has for us is, and how precious the gift of the Holy Spirit is!
In Sunday school, we like to encourage your child to grow in this area by rewarding the time he/she spends reading Bible stories and/or memorizing Bible verses. God's word is amazing and it's a primary way for all children to know God's story, His heart, and His promises. We send home a Bible verse each month for all the children to memorize. When they are able to recite it to us, we will reward them with a ticket and they will be able to pick out a prize! We will also reward them for time spent reading the Bible and/or books with stories from the Bible.
In addition to becoming familiar with the Bible, we also spend time learning how to listen to the Holy Spirit. I teach the children that when the Holy Spirit is speaking to them, it always lines up with the Bible. The Holy Spirit always builds up, cheers up, and draws them closer to God.
As the children spend time with God, through prayer, reading the Bible, and worship, we begin to see the Fruit of the Spirit grow in their hearts and in their lives. They become shining lights in this world, carrying God's love and goodness everywhere they go--spreading God's Kingdom. It's beautiful to watch and an honor to be a part of their journey.

This tradition at Sherman Oaks Presbyterian Church is hosted every Sunday at 11:15 a.m. right after the 10 a.m. worship service.
It is a time when attendees from both services come together as the larger body of believers at SOPC. Coffee and fresh pastries are served at no-charge, as we “break bread” with other members to share the experience of family and get to know one another better.
We invite church attenders and members of the community to join us for this time to share life.
"Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people,
especially to those who belong to the family of believers."
- Galatians 6:10
